Spring is a special time for many reasons and one of them are the high school and college graduations.  In this natural season of renewal, graduations remind us of the hope to come.  New beginnings.  And flowers almost always play a part.

For several years I’ve had the honor of designing the dais and floral/greenery arrangements for the graduation ceremonies for two prestigious universities – Duke and East Carolina University.  These events are always invigorating to do because of the momentous occasions and the emphasis on young people and their new beginnings.  I approach each ceremony uniquely, but I always use a mixture of fresh flowers and our New Growth Design permanent botanicals.  Using both gives me the range I need and results in an impressive outcome.

At the High Point Market next month, we are unveiling our latest innovation and we couldn’t be more excited.  It’s not only beautiful but also makes your busy life easier.

We are introducing Leaf It, a fitted leaf wrap element that currently has a patent pending. Leaf It features large leaves that wrap around the base of arrangement.  The leaves are adhered in a virtually permanent manner facilitating easy cleaning of vases.  The arrangement slips out of the vase as a cohesive unit and can be easily reinserted once the container is cleaned.

Glass and crystal vases and cubes naturally get dusty and cloudy over time and cleaning them can be difficult.  Leaf It makes cleaning vases effortless!

The Leaf It product is versatile in other ways as well.  For example, the leaves are adhered in such a way that the arrangement can be displayed without a container for a more organic, natural look.

As the article notes, indoor trees “bring the bold, tonal and soulful architectural elements to interiors modern and traditional.”  They both make design statements and blend into the background adding warmth and life to a room.  Often, they provide the height element that the room needs.

Our selection of indoor trees has grown over the past year and ranges from the English symmetry of the European Privet to the traditional full Ficus tree.  Three of our newest and most popular offerings are the Mangrove, SeaGrape and Fiddle-Leaf Fig trees. We will also be introducing a few new ones in April at the High Point Market.

There is nothing more disappointing than purchasing and installing a large indoor tree only to have it wither away slowly and die months later.  With the incredibly lifelike New Growth Designs trees, that worry is taken away!

The most exciting news is that our new introduction, Flowerscapes, was a huge hit!  We had the soft introductions at the winter markets and will have the grand introduction at the April market in High Point.  If you didn’t get to the shows and don’t know what Flowerscapes is, here are some photos. Flowerscapes is another New Growth Designs innovation by my father, Ed Glenn.  I’m proud to say, “It’s a beautiful way of bringing nature indoors!”

Some other big sellers at market were our Seagrape Tree (which is now sold out until June), the Fiddle-Leaf Fig Tree, our White Phalaenopsis Orchids and our Peony arrangements.  We’re not resting on our laurels however, dad is already hard at work on some new phenomenal arrangements.  His creativity and attention to detail for making the flowers life-like continue to inspire us all.

We moved into a new showroom in Atlanta (Merchandise Mart, 14-F-11) that we share with French Market Collection.  Their lovely, sophisticated furniture worked perfectly with our flowers and botanicals.  The showroom is spacious, airy and has natural light and wood floors.

Here are some photos of mantels Ed did this holiday season.  Each mantel design is unique and a masterpiece in itself.  The homeowner’s guests loved seeing how fabulous each mantel was and the mantels received more attention than the Christmas tree!

Ed used a variety of fresh materials including Magnolia Boughs, Incense Cedar, Silver Fir, White Pine, English Boxwood, Juniper, Hypericum Berry and Cymbididium Orchid Sprays.  All three were designed on site.

Even after all of these years of growing up in the business, I am still amazed,  inspired and incredibly proud of what my Dad can create.
